At the height of its success, the J. A. Simmers Seed Co. occupied 147, 149, and 151 King Street East in downtown Toronto—right where St. James Park now sits, beside the historic St. James Cathedral.
Whether by coincidence or clever homage, the park that has replaced the business is now a collection of formal gardens. It feels oddly fitting. The company’s catalog covers were once considered works of art—so much so that people often tore them off to brighten the walls of more modest homes. Today, surviving examples are rare and treasured.
Reproduced in vivid wide-gamut colour, and mounted on genuine Eska board.
